I am glad to announce you that my new album "The Waking Dream" is now available on Bandcamp


"The Waking Dream "'s compositions are inspired by" 1816 ,The year without Summer" when Mary Shelley imagined her novel Frankenstein.

At the time Shelley wrote most prolifically, the world had been plunged into semi-darkness, crop-failure, famine, and a significant increase in riots, murders, and fatal illnesses by the cataclysmic eruption of Mount Tambora, in Indonesia.

In this time of Global Pandemic and Grief, looking back to the History and collective dramas is a resonating and a learning process. Hopefully, Awareness can open a room for solace and arouse our vital energy.


For each sonic piece, my creative process is the same : the Voice is a spatial and dramatic language.
Words and body sounds become layers,textures,sculptural elements inducing trance like movement and images .

This audio project is not a direct,detailed storyline but a meditative exploration awakened by the present echoing to the past events that generate a dystopian vision in which poetry is merging with soundscapes and vocals.

Deep listening and Singing Personalised lessons via Zoom with French composer vocalist Muriel Louveau  OPEN TO ALL !


Guided activity to explore spoken words, singing in tongues, vocalization in relationship with movement .

Isolation can be an opportunity to explore !
We will start with a poem , collect words  or extracts from an existing tune .Using these ingredients ,we will work on the bridge between speaking and singing and  learn how to play with language  physically and vocally. 

I will lead you through improvisation and other methods to explore the rhythm, expression and colours of the sounds in your voice and together we'll put them in a musical context.  You will discover  the art of listening  and get in tune with your unique creative potential.

Working on "Endless Shapes", retitled "Not then Not yet" ,has been the highlight of my year

and one of the highest peaks of my artistic and personal Life . I am pleased that this piece opened to much critical acclaim 
.

                                      

Tiffany Mills Company returns to The Flea with the world premiere of Not then, not yet, an evening-length work that explores states of transition and transformation. 

Choreographer Tiffany Mills’s Not then, not yet, created in collaboration with Puerto Rican composer Angélica Negrón and French vocalist/composer Muriel Louveau, examines states of transition, drawing inspiration from the liminal space between endings and new beginnings. The artists’ initial interest in liminality comes from Mary Shelley’s life and early writing—specifically her examination of the threshold between creation and destruction, integration and isolation. Ruminating on what it means to be in between, the collaborators now look at portals and passageways through a 21st-century lens. Weaving movement, an electronic score, poetry and live vocals, the artists map internal landscapes, as well as external ones ( as they consider the often surreal space one dwells in between past/future, young/old, and even life/death).Negrón's blend of electro-acoustics mixed with classical instrumentation and found sounds, Louveau's extreme vocal registers and foreign influences, and Mills's raw and unhinged movement create a kinetically charged world that speaks to the subconscious.
Not then, not yet features choreography by Tiffany Mills, dramaturgy by Mills’s longtime collaborator Kay Cummings, original composition by Angelica Negrón and vocalist Muriel Louveau, lighting design by Chris Hudacs, and costumes by Pei-Chi Su. Not then, not yet is performed by Mills, Jordan Morley, Kenneth Olguin, Nikolas Owens, Emily Pope, and Mei Yamanaka.

This  project  brings  together   singer/composer  Muriel  Louveau with dancer Emily Marie Pope and  composer/multi-­instrumentalist  Angélica  Negrón  for  a  series of  collaborative  improvisations  exploring  the  historic  and  socio  cultural  dynamics  of  hysteria.

  “Hysteria”  —  which  comes  from  the  Greek  word  for  womb,  hystera  —  was  one  of  the  first  mental  health  conditions  attributed  to  only  women.
"We’re  interested  in  exploring  archetypes  of  women  and  delving  deeper  into  perceptions  of   gender,  transgression  and  emancipation  via  inquiry  driven  physical  embodiments  and  sonic   and  poetic  realizations  of  these  ideas.  We’ll  also  consider  the  significance  of  female  body  in   theatre,  music  and  dance,  the  role  of  rituals  both  in  the  ancient  and  contemporary  worlds   and  the  cathartic  function  of  performances  both  on  the  ancient  and  modern  stages. "

The  show  will  move  fluently  from  solo  to  duo  structured  improvisations  between  Angélica Negrón  and  Muriel Louveau  combining  voices  with  electronics  and  unusual  instruments.   Emily  Marie  Pope  will  be  responding  real  time  to  these  soundscapes  through  the  physicalization  of  these  different  states  of  hysteria  oftentimes  in  close  proximity  to  the   audience  to  heighten  the  intense  and  immersive  trance  like  nature  of  this  experience.  The  movement  component  as  well  as  the  musical  soundscapes  will  range  from  stillness  and   gentle  articulations  to  more  dynamic  and  dramatic  gestures  exploring  the  inward  vs.  outwards  expressions  of  these  extreme  emotions  and  altered  states.   
 The performance will be followed by a talk with psycho analyst Paola Mieli.

Endless Shapes Showings

Three years ago , I started to conceive and work with Tiffany Mills on the project Endless Shapes inspired by Mary Shelley and themes of liminality found in her seminal novel. We have rehearsed in June 2018 and since January ,I have joined the working sessions  of the dance company via Skype .  I am looking forward to being in the studio in New York to finalize the piece with the Team .
  

This hybrid evening-length work premiering at The Flea in November 2019 ,weaves movement  ,vocals ,and pre-recorded electronic music by Puerto rican composer Angélica Negron .


The piece seeks to unlock what is universal in these stories of liminality and bring out the ritualistic dimension of the altered states with abstract yet evocative sounds that transcend notions of culture, time and place. 
Tiffany Mills and her dancers have unfolded excerpts of this work in progress at Dixon place and The Flea .Here are a few glimpses .Stay Tuned  for more !

Vocals in the Dark with BodyStories Dancers

 On June 23 -24 , from 1 to 6pm, French composer vocalist Muriel Louveau presents
” Vocals in the Dark “a multi layered vocal &and sound piece that combines words and singing in foreign languages. This project was inspired by poems of the american artist Elizabeth Hayes Christopher.

This meditative and immersive artistic experience is set in darkness and transports the visitor to foreign territories.

Three performances will also take place  during the afternoon of  Saturday June 23 rd at 3, 4 , 5 pm.

.Muriel will be singing live and will be joined  by Bodystories dancers  who will respond to Muriel’s vocals within the specific environment

Rechnitz by Elfriede Jelinek US Premiére

Muriel Louveau has created the music &sound track for Rechnitz by Elfriede Jelinek  a play directed by Ildko Nemeth

The production runs April 19th– May 5th, 2018 at The New Stage Performance Space (36 West 106th Street, NYC).

 

 New Stage Theatre Company presents the US premiere of Rechnitz, written by Nobel Prize-winning Austrian playwright Elfriede Jelinek and directed by Ildiko Nemeth. Examining the silence around a historical event of mind-boggling evil, Rechnitz delves bravely into the psychology of dehumanization, brutality, and denial. The text lays bare the strategies complicit humans use to diffuse staggering guilt, and the ways in which these strategies can turn the moral compass of an entire society berserk.
